The Shining..author and setting

In English class, we just started reading Stephen King's The Shining. Up to page 64, I must admit the book is very interesting so far. Never before has a book fasciniated me from the beggining. Because we just started reading the book, I honestly can't tell you what Stephen King's message is in the book. My guess is to introduce depression in kid's lifes. Danny has these bad dreams about things happening; which leads me to believe that another world is trying to get in contact with him because of the actions of his father. Danny knows alot of things his father does because of dreams. The word depression comes in my mind because these dreams confuse Danny and nobody has an answer for him. Stephen King's way of writing is very different and unique compared to other authors. He doesn't shy away from using profanity and I'm not going to lie, it makes the book more interesting and funny. Because his books are so different in terms of storylines, many directors decide to make movies based on the books he has made. It's rare to find a Stephen King based movie do poorly. Another thing that makes The Shining such a good read so far is the setting. The story takes place in Colorado, which isn't a common state to base a setting in. It's weird because everytime Stephen starts a new chapter, a new setting is introduced and it's so descriptive its ridiculous. He describes Colorado as a very cold place with lots of snow, and not alot of people. I personally would not want to visit or be in a place like this. When I read the past 64 pages, it makes me feel cold and lonely. And when I think of places like this, it's usually the settings in movies where people are most likely to be murdered. Stephen creates this uncomfortable atmosphere that makes you want to keep reading, especially for Danny. I think the whole purpose of being in Colorado makes Danny feel lonely like there is nothing to do. When you get bored and lonely, the only way to occupy your time is by thinking. This also makes Danny more vulnerable for something bad to happen to him, the bad dreams he keeps on having. I think movies and books that have children as their main character, usually attract more people to readm or watch it. Especially children who are able to see things that other people can't explain. For example, the movie The Sixth Sense. Because there was a small child experiencing a paranormal effect, makes the viewer feel bad. It is exactly the same idea for The Shining. But so far so good. I'm really enjoying this book so far and I just hope nothing bad happens to Danny... 

The Exorcist..Scary or NOT?

Once again, we are watching movies in an English 4 class and I love it. haha. But this time, we're watching the old classic the Exorcist. The weird thing is, throughout the whole movie, the class was laughing during the scary parts when the girl was being possessed.

What is known to be scary back in the 20th century, isn't scaryo to kids nowadays. I think so because kids are raised with more technology than ever. We have games such as Grand Theft Auto and other games that introduces us to more of a gory world. I was talking to my Foods teacher about this, and she said she was terrified when the Exorcist first came out. She said she was around a sophomore in high-school when she first seen the movie. This had me thinking throughout the whole day. Why wasn't I scared? Because I have seen scarier.  Movies such as Paranormal Activity when it shows live footages of real paranormal activity happening to real people. I also play alot of Modern Warfare which might have helped out alittle bit. I'm basically used to seeing dead people because of this game. In my opinion, I think that kids in the next century are going to be completly okay watching scary movies at a young age. I think this is why the Exorcist really wasn't scary to me and many other teenagers that have watched it recently.

the supernatural..real or fake?

In English class, we're watching The Exorcist, a very well known and rather popular film. My teacher, Mr. Hessert, asked us if we thought the supernatural is real. If in another world or being, the supernatural actually exists. Personally, I’ve always believed in the supernatural. I mean, you see all these movies about people recording their experiences and their houses being haunted; you can't help but not be a skeptic to the phenomenon. Because I lost close relatives, I am a believer. I believe that in times of trouble or helplessness my guardian angels will be there to help me or guide me. Like anything in life, you have your good and your bad. These types of guardian angels are your good. And than you have your bad supernatural. From the paranormal shows that I’ve watched, these spirits stay around to haunt people because they died a bad death or they want revenge on people. This is the type of spirit that possessed the little girl in The Exorcist. Religious folks believe this is the devil trying to get in contact with the human world. I haven’t had any paranormal experiences, but I have had some times when I felt that I was in presence of another being. It’s a hard feeling to explain but you feel as if someone is next to you. It’s not alarming or awkward, you just feel happy and content. And I’ve also had experiences when I felt that a guardian angel was there watching over me. I want to believe that when I die, I can still be around spiritually to see my family and give them a peaceful presence. When I think of the supernatural, I think peaceful and non-violent. Exactly like the way I hope going onto another side should be. Your death is a memoriam of who you are and how happy you made the people you left. So to answer the question whether or not the supernatural is real; I personally say it is. Enjoy a word from our sponsor..

The first horror film I fell in love with..

Twas the night before Christmas..haha just kidding. But seriously, have you ever had a scary movie that you watched as a young one and had horrific dreams and flashbacks about it since? For me, that movie is The Night Before Christmas. I remember watching that movie and being TERRIFIED about it. I woke up in the middle of the night staring face to face with this guy..

 Yeah, it's some intense stuff to see as a kid. The whole theme of not having Christmas and "Santie Clause" being captured by the Boogie Monster wasn't exactly my cup of tea. This scarred me as a child. When I first started talking,  I first saw this movie because my older cousins were watching it. And because nobody is cooler than your older cousins at that age, I decided to watch it. It was an action I honestly regret doing as a child. I personally think that if i haven't had watched this movie, maybe my artistic senses wouldn't have kicked in. Just because the movie is so...artistic. The weird thing about this movie is that I would never stop watching it. It was one of those feelings when you know it was wrong, but you couldn't help but watch it. Like you know you shouldn't eat a cookie from the cookie jar if mommy says no, but you just can't help but do it! I fell in love with the characters and the music they sang along to while making presents. As i'm older now; this has to be one of my favorite movies! I can sit home all day and watch it over and over again. I now appreciate a good movie that once terrified me as a kid. This isn't necessarily a horror film, but the way the Boogie Man looked at me when I woke up; I can't classify it in any other category.
